About the Shrimp of the Woods

Entoloma abortivum, a fungus whose attacks on honey fungus produce white lumpy masses prized as shrimp of the woods. Both the aborted knobs and the normal caps are edible when cooked. Scientists argued for decades about which species was the parasite before genetics settled it. The white knobs are the choice form.
