About the Artists Conk

Ganoderma applanatum, a hard perennial bracket. Scratching its white underside leaves permanent marks, so artists draw whole scenes into it. A large conk can release billions of spores per day. Too woody to eat but used in traditional medicines. A close relative of reishi.
