About the Common Puffball

Lycoperdon perlatum, the classic woodland puffball wearing a coat of spiky warts that rub off. Edible only while young and pure white inside. Always slice vertically to rule out developing parasols or stinkhorns. Mature heads puff spores through a top hole.
