About the Stump Puffball
Lycoperdon pyriforme, the only common puffball that grows on wood, usually in tight clusters on stumps and logs. Young white flesh is sliced and fried. Ripe heads puff clouds of brown spores at a touch. The wood habit separates it from ground puffballs.
