About the Fried Chicken Mushroom
Lyophyllum decastes fruits in dense clumps on the ground near trees. Firm flesh with a mild flavor; the folk name says it all. Popular in Japan where it is cultivated and sold as hatake shimeji. Must be cooked thoroughly. Similar clumping species include toxic Entolomas, so caution is needed.
