About the St Georges Mushroom
Calocybe gambosa appears around St Georges Day, April 23, in old pastures. Smells distinctly of fresh flour. Grows in thick pale rings that persist for decades. One of the few great spring edibles. Its main lookalike, the livid pinkgill, is a common poisoning source, so care is needed.
