About the Honey Fungus
Contains the largest known organism on Earth by area - an Armillaria ostoyae in Oregon covers 2,385 acres and is 2,400-8,650 years old. They are parasitic, killing trees by attacking their roots. Edible when thoroughly cooked but some people have reactions. They produce bioluminescent mycelium that glows in the dark. The honey-colored caps grow in dense clusters.
