About the Jack O Lantern

Famous for being bioluminescent - their gills glow faintly green in complete darkness. This glow is caused by an enzyme called luciferase reacting with luciferin. Poisonous if eaten, causing severe GI distress. They are bright orange and often confused with chanterelles. The glow is one of natures most magical sights. Best observed in a dark room with dark-adapted eyes.
