About the Wood Blewit
Distinctive lilac-blue color when fresh. They must be cooked thoroughly - raw or undercooked they cause GI issues. One of the few mushrooms that can survive frost, fruiting into early winter. Their color fades with age. Found in leaf litter in both coniferous and deciduous forests. Popular in French cuisine. Confused with the toxic purple cortinarius species.
