Agaricus campestris, the wild cousin of the shop button mushroom, eaten since Roman times. Pink gills mature to chocolate brown. Fruits in fairy rings after rain. Must be sorted from the yellow stainer, which stains chrome yellow and smells chemical. A favorite first wild mushroom.
