About the Brown Roll Rim

Paxillus involutus was eaten widely in Eastern Europe for generations, and German mycologist Julius Schaeffer died from it in 1944. Repeated meals can sensitize the immune system until a final meal triggers Paxillus syndrome, which bursts red blood cells and shuts down the kidneys. Now classified as deadly. Its brown cap rolls under at the rim.
