About the Death Cap
Responsible for the majority of fatal mushroom poisonings worldwide. A single cap contains enough toxin to kill an adult. Symptoms delay 6-12 hours, by which time organ damage is irreversible. The toxin, amatoxin, destroys liver cells. They look similar to edible paddy straw mushrooms. Emperor Claudius was allegedly poisoned with death caps. Survivors often need liver transplants.
