About the Satans Bolete
Rubroboletus satanas, a massive bolete with a pale cap, red pores and a fat stem that stains blue when cut. One of the few boletes considered genuinely poisonous in Europe, causing violent vomiting and diarrhea. Favors warm lime soils under oaks. Dramatic blue bruising marks it out.
