About the Straw Mushroom
Volvariella volvacea, cultivated across Asia on rice straw for roughly 2,000 years. The canned mushrooms in Asian markets are almost always this species. Grows explosively fast in tropical heat. Danger: its egg shaped buttons resemble deadly Amanita eggs, and mistaken harvests kill people in Southeast Asia every year.
